On the 20th of July, John and I
returned to the ice to perform
for the first time since both my
surgery and turning professional.
The tour was called The Ice and

It was the writer’s pleasure to meet Betty Callaway MBE, initially at numerous British ice dance championships, when they were held exclusively in the old Nottingham stadium between 1951 and 1968. The writer also covered Betty as she travelled the world with her top international competitors, filing for Ice and Roller Skate magazine, the Guardian and in addition, from 1990, for the Telegraph. She also wrote the BBC Book of Skating, which had a section on the golden duo of Torvill and Dean, as well as Spice on Ice, an autobiography covering Karen Barber and Nicky Slater’s competitive years.
